What's Baking in Astoria?
Astoria has been “up and coming” for the past years and with good reason, it’s only about a 20 minute (or less) train ride into the city. Convenience is definitely key to this neighborhood in Queens. Growing up in Astoria, I’m pretty knowledgeable on the parts of neighborhoods - and as you may have noticed already, I tend to focus on Astorian restaurants. A couple of weeks...

Sushi Heaven
Yes I know, I have already reviewed a sushi restaurant, but Kitaku is my favorite Japanese/Chinese Cuisine in Queens, NY. Last week I was in the mood for sushi and since last week was the start of lent, even more reason my seafood cravings - I am Catholic and I have given up all types of starch until Easter. If I gave up starch then why am I craving sushi if it consists of rice, you may ask....

Not so Grand?
Have you ever liked a place and then when you revisit it, you are not as impressed? Well, this happens to be the case on my visit to Grand Cafe in Astoria, Queens. I’ve never been in love with the loud music and cramped spacing of the design but my food enjoyment was reason enough to return. Growing up in Astoria, especially down the block from Grand Cafe, I usually run into familiar faces...

Turning Japanese - at Half Price
First and foremost, I apologize for such a long hiatus. Second, I would like to dedicate this post to my male colleagues at ABI for recommending this place. BRAVO guys - right on target. Sushi Lounge on St. Marks Place is a good choice for an indulgence of sushi at half the price! Now, I have a soft spot for Japanese food so when my friend Jessica asked me where we were going to celebrate her...

Extended Hiatus...return!
Alas, I return from my extended hiatus. These have been some difficult times but I am back and ready to share my cuisine experiences. I have decided that while I will focus on Latin Cuisines in Queens, I will also venture out into new and fun boroughs and experience various ethnic foods they  offer. There are a couple of restaurants that come to mind so here are some that I have enjoyed in...

Did Someone say Tapas?
Astoria, Queens has a very Mediterranean/European feel when it comes to food. When walking up 30th ave, the heart of Astoria, you encounter many different restaurants/cafes with the same theme throughout each: European Gourmet. Although, there are many Latin restaurants, there aren’t many Spanish Tapas until now: Alegria.   Alegria is a Tapas restaurant that incorporates South American...

Gloria! Gloria!
Remember Flashdance? Great movie with an unforgetable song by Laura Branigan. Now imagine channeling the energy from the song and creating a restaurant with such unforgetable taste and atmosphere? La Gloria, located on 86th Street and Northern Boulevard in Queens, NY, has managed to create a remarkable reputation with their lounge/bar in the past couple of years and now they have opened up their...
